The Earth Friendly Lolita Project

Or any plastic bottle!

Turn a trash into treasure!

You will be needing:

Destash fabric: 1/4 yard would be enough

Hot Glue

Plastic bottle

Laces

Pearls, bows, deco-den materials (optional)

Cut the bottle in half.

We will be making a mini tophat out of the bottom of the bottle. This is my desired length.

Trace out the fabric you will be needing to cover the top part and cut it. Be reminded to provide extra space. Do not cut straight across the lines you have traced.

It should look like this.

Apply hot glue along the edges of the base. It’s not clear on the photo but if you look closely, that is where I applied it.

Cut a rectangular strip to cover the sides of the base.

Erm. I came short. It’s supposed to be covered entirely. Hot glue is bulky so I would just patch it up with embelishments.

Glue your focal element. I chose a handmade bow from my destash. You can attach a flower, an animal applique or anything that you desire.

I patched the middle part with lace and glued the bow in the middle.

Secure the side covering by attaching it on the inner edges using hot glue.

It should look like this.

Glue laces along the bottom edges like this. This will serve as your brim.

TADA! And there is our hat. You can choose to stop here if you desire. :D

I chose to finish it with pearls. I love pearls. :D

No remainders please! Remainders means trash and we do not like trashes so we are going to make more accessories out of this one.

Cut the cylinder into three.

We can make a pair of cuffs out of the two cut outs and make a headband base out of the other one.

Cut a rectangular piece of fabric to cover your first cuff base.

It should end up like this.

Glue laces across. It’s up to you if you want to place it in ruffles or not.

Finish with desired embellishments. I just love pearls so…there. :D

Do the same with the other base. This will be our headband base for the tophat.

It should end up like this. This is optional but it would be great if there will be no remainders of the bottle. Use every inch! :D

So what to do with these?

This would be funny but since this piece looks a lot like how lolita dresses are supposed to look, I decided to make a mini JSK keychain out of it.

Cover it up with the remaining fabric. Dress it up.

And here’s the finished product. A cute mini JSK keychain. <3

Cover the cap with the remaining fabric. We will make a ring out of this, btw. :D

You could deco the ring if you like like what I did. Experiment. It’s what recycling is all about anyway! :D
